SPRINGING TOWARDS MARCH EVENTS

Spring is right around the corner, and the Chicago Southland has a pot of gold’s worth of activities to enjoy. From the indoors to the outdoors, check out some exciting events and activities you can participate in this March. 
 

Irish Appreciation 

On March 5, check out the Oak Forest Fleadh 2022. Kick off the day with a 5k or head straight to the parade at 11AM for a chance to find the hidden $1000 dollar ticket on the trail. With kid-friendly activities available for the young ones and tons of participating restaurants and pubs, you won’t want to miss this fun-filled day! 

Hop on the 2022 Irish Trolley on March 5 to get a ride to all the Irish pubs and restaurants in Orland Park. Hop off at your favorite spot to enjoy live music, food and drinks, then jump back on the trolley and head to the next location! 

The Downtown Tinley Park Irish Parade is taking place March 6 along Oak Park Avenue from 183rd to 171st Street. Kicking off at 1PM, enjoy floats and community groups marching along! If you’re looking for some extra fun before the parade, head over to Irish Tea at the Vogt Visual Arts Center. Located just a block off the parade route, enjoy tea and Irish pastries from 11:30-1PM. 

On March 12-13 and 16-17, head to J.J. Kelley’s ShamRockin Celebration at J.J. Kelley’s in Lansing! Each day will feature corned beef specials, as well as different drink specials and activities. 

Throughout the month of March, Chicago Gaelic Park will be featuring a whole host of events, including various Irish step dancing performances, a St. Baldrick’s charity event, a South Side Irish Sunday and the St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon. On March 17, head over to St. Patrick’s Day At The Station at Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery in Flossmoor to enjoy food specials including the Corned Beef & Cabbage, and drink specials like the green beer! 
 

The Arts 

On March 26 at Governors State University's Center for Performing Arts, experience Beyond Conversation: Red Summer, an opportunity to learn all of the ins and outs of the fantastic play. Watch the premiere staging of the play, meet the playwrights and artistic team, and learn about the Chicago race riots of 1919.

Head to the Moraine Valley Community College Fine & Performing Arts Center in Palos Hills for a whole host of performances this March. On March 4, experience Remembering Saxophonist, Carl Coan Featuring the Moraine Valley Jazz Ensemble and Special Guests. Offering free admission, you won’t want to miss this 20-member band playing everything from classical swing to gritty funk. From March 4-6, you can also check out Boy, a play about trying to find love in a new body. Also offering free admission, check out Bandtastic! on March 6 for a diverse big band experience. On March 16, enjoy Tropical Adventures, a flute choir performance full of island-life inspired music. 

At the Vogt Visual Arts Center in Tinley Park you can attend the Art Reception: Girl Scout Show on March 5. Check out artwork made by Girl Scouts and enjoy light refreshments! 

On March 12, check out Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Concert: Stravinsky, Ravel & Abels at Trinity Christian College Ozinga Chapel in Palos Heights to hear some of the greatest hits from these world class artists. 

A Tribute to Aretha Franklin: The Queen of Soul at the Governors State University Center for Performing Arts in University Park takes place on March 13, featuring Grammy Award-winner Karen Clark Sheard and an accomplished cast of jazz, gospel and soul musicians. 
 

Hikers, Bikers and Nature Likers 

Beginning in March, the Forest Preserve District of Will County is celebrating it’s 95th anniversary! To commemorate this milestone, join in the Spring Ninety-Fiver Challenge. Take the challenge to walk, bike or run a total of 95 miles before June 30 in Will County Forest Preserves and win a special prize! 

On March 5 at the Oak Forest Fleadh 2022, join in on the CNB Oak Forest Fleadh 5k! Starting at 8:30AM, take on this run before checking out the Join the Running O’ The Green 8k at the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center in Tinley Park on March 6. The first 550 registered participants receive a free unisex long sleeve, so be sure to register as soon as possible. 

On March 19 from 6:30PM-8:30PM, head out on the Woodcock Walk at the Plum Creek Nature Center in Beecher. As the sun sets the woodcock bird sings an impressive tune, so be sure to head out on this guided hike to try and catch a listen.  

Go for a Morning Bird Hike at the Monee Reservoir on March 20 for a chance to find birds returning to Illinois for the nesting season.
